Bee Conscious This Spring

When it comes to pollination, bees are the busiest bodies out there! Yet, despite being responsible for pollinating three quarters of our world's vegetation, our bee population is still declining. Their native habitat is being continually destroyed, and pesticides and other agricultural pathogens are proving lethal to our fluffy companions. However, we can still help. With a bit of elbow grease and man power, we can easily make our local environments friendly to our bee population this spring. Here's a quick guide to keeping a bee-friendly garden: (1) Bees LOVE herbs; simply plant some herbs in a pot or window box and watch the bees gather! (Wreak the benefits of having gorgeous homegrown herbs too!) Herb suggestions: Chives, Sage, Rosemary, Thyme, Lavender. (2) When shopping around, look for the flowers that most attract bees. Most manufacturers now will label their packaging in order to let you know which plants are most bee-friendly. There's plenty out there! (3) If you're really keen to help, leave a small dish of watch outside with some pebbles in the base - sometimes a little sugar in the water can help too. This way, the busy bees have somewhere to rest and refuel before going on their way!
